Tuday's Artisan, LLC started in December 2005 with the intentions of selling hard to find artisan materials, tools and equipment -- also included were scrapbook and craft supplies for local interests. It soon became apparent that artisan supplies were not in sufficient demand to sustain our type of business and so we increased the craft and scrapbooking side of the business. By 2007, we had gained a small foothold within the Mid-Michigan's rural farm belt located approximately 24 miles south-southeast of Lansing as the place to go to get school art supplies, crafts, gifts and scrapbook materials. Our newly created web site took off in 2007 as tudaysartisan.com selling craft and gift supplies and eventually hobby models and supplies.
By mid 2008, it was becoming clear that small town rural merchants like us were not going to survive further economic deteriorating from the recession and so to offset our local problems we added two more web sites tudayshobbymodels.com and tudayscraftgift.com and subdivided our inventory into the appropriate category. As competition for hobby, craft and gift sales increased so increased discounting, and eventually something had to change if we were going to survive this recession. By 2009, we had seen the demise of many well established small and large city craft, gift and hobby merchants that had been in business since the end of the last major recession of the 1980's. Sales for walk in customers trickled down to a crawl and so following the tide, as we must, we closed our main street store in early 2009.
By late 2010, our whole attitude of continuing as a hobby merchant dealer had changed and we began a process of open sharing of information by demonstrating and reviewing products as well as open dialog discussion groups (blogging) for those interested in discussing just about anything. We let the consumer see what the last few consumers had purchased, what new release products were soon to become available and the latest release. We included a historical timeline (future new feature) of past events for each month.
